Montalcino

Montalcino is home to the Brunello di Montalcino, one of the most famous and well-known wines in the world. South of Siena there’s a fairytale medieval village, guarded by a mighty wall and dominated by an ancient castle, the Fortezza, perfectly preserved. From Piazza del Popolo to the Abbey of Sant’Antimo, there are many places that cannot be missed: set out to discover this village, not without first tasting a glass of Brunello of course! Small curiosity: did you know that the inhabitants of Montalcino are called Ilcinesi? In fact, the name of the village derives from Mons Ilcinus, meaning mountain of holm oaks.
